Who is Gretel?
She is heroine of the famous fairy tale Hansel and Gretel by the Brothers Grimm. Her journey transported us deep into the heart of the forest, past the artifacts of her childhood, and into the maze of her own psyche. We present a probing exploration of loss and “what if,” examining the way history, family, the decisions we make and the decisions that are made for us lead us into a myriad of different directions, parallel possibilities, and multiple futures.
What is "the Gretel Project"?
The Gretel Project started out as an exchange of messages between the co-founders and long time friends Catherine Chung and Lauren K. Alleyne. It has since grown into a collaboration that brings artists together using their distinct talents to recreate this fascinating story.
The Gretel Project explodes the boundaries of traditional theatrical storytelling to create a multi-dimensional sensory experience that blurs the lines between reality and story, and invites the audience to be a part of Gretel's journey. Through this dynamic and thought-provoking experience, participants are compelled to reconsider the original fairy tale, and what it reveals to and about contemporary society.
